hi, i'm laura. there are 5 main things you should know about me...

  1. I'm originally from the hudson valley, and a proud graduate of minnesota state university, where I majored in theatre and photography!
  2. I am married to an amazing guy. he is a professional lighting designer and dad joke teller. we met at a summer stock theatre, and got married at a summer camp in the poconos.
  3. i have an awesome, funny, creative 11 year old named kayla
  4. i am the daughter of artists; my dad was an accomplished visual artist who also ran a performing arts center, and my mom was a creative genius and renaissance woman (she could paint a picture, redecorate your house, and rewire your lights). it was because of them, I was raised with an appreciation and thirst for the arts, and was encouraged to pursue them as a career.
  5. i AM THE SISTER OF AN AVID OUTDOORSMAN. HE HAS CLIMBED SOME OF THE TALLEST MOUNTAINS IN THE US, AND HE IS AN AWESOME PHOTOGRAPHER AS WELL!

7 things i love are...

  1. Podcasts— Right now I love The Bowery Boys: New York City History, criminal and anything that comes from the team at This American Life.
  2. Traveling— Whether it’s a day trip out of the city or flying to the other side of the world, I love experiencing new things (and photographing them).
  3. Theatre — My parents must have known this ahead of time because my birth announcement was a theatre ticket! I toured in and represented Broadway shows for almost a decade before focusing on photography full time.
  4. New York City— I get goose bumps every time I fly back and see the skyline.
  5. Photography— I took my first photo class in 9th grade with the brilliant Mr. Mahar. I've rarely put down my camera since. while i focus on digital photography now, you can still find my film camera in my bag, with a roll of kodak ektar.
  6. being outside — if it's sunny out, i feel guilty being inside.
  7. animals — all animals, cats, dogs, monkeys, sloths, sheep... i will stop and pet dogs on the street, i will find animal sanctuaries and rehabilitation centers when on vacation. i love animals.

These are a few of my favorite things ...

Sunrise over lake in MinnesotaMinnesotaMy grandparents owned a cabin in northern MN, and every summer, my family would pack up our minivan and drive to MN to spend two magical months. It was incredibly special, and my fondest memories are held here. My grandmother used to call it "God's Country" and she was right. text layer
New York CityI often hear people say, "I could never live in NYC" and I think, my gosh, it's the only place I ever want to be.
I literally fall in love with this city anytime its night, and I am in a cab on the FDR, or when I fly into LaGuardia and see the skyline, heck, when sitting in traffic on the GWB and I know I am almost home.
There is an energy here that can't be found anywhere else. There is a grittiness, a beauty, and an attitude. I love it all.
FamilyI met my husband at Millbrook Playhouse in Central PA, we have been together for over a decade, and have built a beautiful family.
In our brood we have a kid, two cats and a dog. They are my life.
flowersFlowers make me happy. I can't grow them, and I can barely keep them alive if I am given them as a present, but I love flowers. Every spring, you can find me in Fort Tryon Park strolling along the heather garden, just breathing in the new life.
